From our press to the Mayor's desk:
Crafting official letterheads for the most important desk in Stamford!
Here at The Stamford Notebook Company, we're immensely proud of our heritage and the traditional printing methods we employ. Recently, we had the distinct honour of producing official letterheads for Kelham Cook, the Mayor of Stamford, a project that perfectly showcases our commitment to quality and craftsmanship.
We were approached being one of the few town printers with connections to the Town Hall, with Hugo's father Peter Spiegl having been town Mayor in 1980. The original stationery was printed by a former Stamford printer - Dolby Brothers. Dolby's ceased trading in the 1980s.
The stationery previously had been printed in a single colour and die-stamped, raising the embossing of the town crest.

Phase 1: Preparing the Artwork
Every great print job starts with meticulous artwork. For the Mayor's letterheads, we began with the official Stamford crest. This intricate design required careful handling to ensure every detail would be reproduced flawlessly. Our skilled staff worked diligently to prepare a high-resolution digital version of the crest, optimising it for both colour printing and embossing.
Phase 2: The Magic of Print
With the artwork prepped, we moved on to the printing stage. Using our traditional printing presses, we carefully laid down each colour of the Stamford crest. This process requires a keen eye and precise adjustments to ensure perfect application of the intricate design.
Phase 3: Adding Dimension with Embossing
To add a touch of elegance and distinction, we embossed the Stamford crest. This technique involves creating a custom die of the crest, which is then pressed into the paper with significant pressure. The result is a raised, tactile impression that adds a whole new dimension to the design. Embossing is a hallmark of quality print work and something we're particularly passionate about.
Phase 4: The Final Product
The final step was to combine the colour-printed crest with the embossed version on high-quality paper stock. The result? A letterhead that exudes professionalism and tradition, befitting the office of the Mayor of Stamford.
We're thrilled to have played a part in producing these official letterheads. It's a project that highlights our dedication to traditional printing methods and our commitment to serving the community of Stamford.
