Eco-Friendly Materials: 

This starts with the provenance of our materials. Our emphasis on being a British made product isn't just about where our books are created. We are constantly looking for new, more sustainably sourced materials, whether they use recycled elements or more responsible production processes. We are also conscious of where our products come from and we strive to buy British made materials where possible. We have also minimised using plastic and created paper based packaging solutions, including paper tape. Even our gift wrapping paper and ribbon are made using recycled materials.

Our Paper:

We pride ourselves on the quality of our British made, fountain pen friendly paper used in our hand bound Notebooks, Journals and Diaries.

This off-white sheet is milled by James Cropper in Kendal, Cumbria, England from sustainable sources and is FSC certified.

We are also signed up to the Woodland Trust Carbon Capture Programme when buying this paper. We contribute to over 200 square metres of native woodland planting each year, this helps us to play our part in mitigating CO2 emissions.

Production:

Being hand made means we rely on people rather than machines. We have a fine collection of traditional bookbinding equipment such as clamps, stamping and sewing machines all of which require human power!

In order to reduce energy consumption we have recently removed our old gas boiler and replaced it with energy efficient infrared heating panels. We have also replaced our lighting system with more energy efficient LEDs, which are sensor triggered and are only on when necessary. We are also committed to proper waste management programs and recycle the majority of our material waste. We are also frugal with paper and try to re-use leftover materials as much as possible.

Sustainability is a journey, and we understand the importance of continuous improvement. We regularly evaluate our materials, processes and practises to identify areas where we can further enhance sustainability.
